"Water cleans and refreshes. Christ described Himself as living water."

WILMORE, Ky. – Veteran Christian artist Todd Agnew was asked about his extensive use of water imagery in his music, including “Grace Like Rain,” the title song of his latest CD.
What he had to say in response would resonate spiritually with any Christian, but especially with members of water-inspired churches such as The River, which is located in nearby Richmond.

Talking to reporters following his appearance at the Ichthus music festival here in late April 2005, Agnew explained that water and rain are “huge things” both in scripture and in the natural world … “in the way they affect our lives.”

For that reason water is a natural as an image in a worship song. As Christians, we often describe the Holy Spirit as raining down on us.

“Water cleans and refreshes,” Agnew added. “Christ described Himself as living water.”

He noted Isaiah’s teaching that the Word does not return void.

“Rain is like that in a way. It never misses,” Agnew said. “Humans waver, but God is stable. He never misses what He aims at.”
