Seeking new home

The River continues to search for a meeting place in which we can grow in numbers and realize our vision for a downtown Richmond, Ky., ministry to serve Eastern Kentucky University students and the urban environs. Among the sites we've toured is the building that most recently housed the Club South bar on South Second Street across from Currier's Music store. These are the photos from the site.

Church members also explored a vacant bar at Madison Avenue and Main streets, but we were unable to strike a deal with the owner. We also took a long look at the former JC Penney building on Main Street across from City Hall. The owners were open to a lease, but there were extremely costly infrastructure obstacles to be overcome. We also have considered the former Church of the Nazrene building on Aspen Avenue, just off Main.

Our vision is for a site not only large enough for normal church expansion but also to serve as a venue for communitywide musical praise and worship and other major events designed to unify the body of Christ and attract non-believers to Him.

We know God has a place in Richmond where He wants to dwell with us. Let's continue to listen for His heartbeat on this matter while also making the most of, and being content,  where we are.
